Fire Safety Day
On Monday May 15th, the boys and girls in 3rd class received a wonderful surprise when the local fire services showed up to give them a demonstration on fire safety. Two of the local firemen chatted to both 3rd classes about the Do's and Don'ts around fire, how to prevent fires from happening and how to put out fires once they start. The children had the opportunity to ask the firemen questions about their job and fire safety, and it's safe to say we were all very impressed by what they told us! All the boys and girls received a free fire safety pack which contained useful information and fun activities. Finally, to top of a wonderful afternoon we got to see a fully equipped fire truck at close hand while the firemen showed us all the gear and gadgets they use to put out fires and rescue people! During the month of March 3rd Class have been extremely busy learning all about space! In particular, the boys and girls have been researching information and facts associated with our solar system. Through books, videos, photographs and group and class discussions we discovered countless facts about the sun, the planets, asteroids, comets and even famous astronauts!
After a very busy few weeks researching the boys and girls in 3rd Class have finally put the finishing touches to their amazing solar system projects! Everyone worked so hard to put together absolutely brilliant projects. What great information they managed to find out and share with the rest of the class. Ancient Greece
Over the past few weeks the boys and girls in 3rd Class have been learning all about Ancient Greece. We read some of the myths and legends associated with the Ancient Greeks and studied some of the famous Ancient Greek gods. On top of all this we examined the wonderful buildings such as the Parthenon!
Since we were learning about Ancient Greece we decided to get busy during Art lessons trying to make our very own Ancient Greek vases. Firstly we designed a replica drawing of Ancient Greek vases, and decorated them with our favourite Greek god. Once this was complete we began our big art project - constructing our very own vase using clay. The boys and girls were all given a block of moulding clay and had to mould and shape it into a vase using just their hands! It was great fun! Once the clay had set the children painted the vases orange and used black paint to add further designs if they so wished. Have a look at the photographs below to see how they turned out. I think you will agree they are just super!

World Book Day
We celebrated World Book Day on Thursday March 2nd! We dressed up as our favourite character from a book, comic etc., and what a range of characters we had! Take a look below to see if you can recognise what characters were in our classroom today!
Christmas Concert
A big thank you to everyone who came to see all the boys and girls perform their Christmas songs. I think everyone will agree that every single one of them was absolutely brilliant! A lot of practise and time went into learning and singing all the songs so a big well done to all the boys and girls in both third classes. Here are a few photos taken during the concert.

The Vikings
For the month of November the boys and girls in Third Class have been busy researching all about the Vikings! We have been looking at Viking homes, clothes, where they come from, where they invaded and of course their infamous longships.
For Art during November, the boys and girls painted a Viking longship! On top of this, everyone constructed their very own Viking longship using just a milk carton, lollipop sticks and paper! The first step was to paint the entire carton inside and out brown, which took a very long time! Once that was complete, the children painted the lollipop sticks brown to use them as oars for the boat. We used one lollipop stick for the head of the ship and another for the mast of the ship. The final steps involved drawing and cutting out the dragon figure for the front, the mast and the shields for the side of the ship. Once all of this was coloured in, cut out and stuck on, our Viking longships were completed! Have a look at how they all turned out!

The theme for the story was Halloween and the children used the narrative writing style for their story. They brainstormed ideas and then began putting together their first draft. When they had their final draft complete, they shared their story with the class, and needless to say we have some very talented writers in our class! Have a read through some of the absolutely fabulous stories below!

The boys and girls in 3rd class have definitely caught the Halloween bug! We have been very busy creating all sort of Halloween art. We designed very spooky haunted houses! As well as this, we used chalk to draw creepy spider webs. The haunted houses and spider webs certainly give our classroom a spooky Halloween feeling! Have a look at them below....if you dare!!!

Our theme for this month has been “Me, Myself and I” and we have been doing lots and lots of different and fun activities all about ourselves.
Over the first few days in 3rd Class, all the boys and girls wrote up a short profile entitled “All About Me!” Have a look at how well they turned out!

In history, they boys and girls were learning all about family history and they created their very own family tree, showing how unique and special all of our families are. We are thrilled at how well they turned out. Have a look!
The 3rd Class boys and girls have been doing super work in Irish this year and put together a “Mé Féin” display all about themselves. Have a read through some of the super Irish work below!
The boys and girls have very imaginative and creative minds and we put them to good use in making up our very own acrostic name poems! The children used the letters in their own names to describe themselves and how great they are!
September has been a busy month for Art in 3rd Class. Continuing along with the theme of “Me, myself and I” the children drew their very own self portrait and coloured them in using oil pastels! Needless to say we have some real artists in our class!
We also created our very own class jigsaw with every child designing their own jigsaw piece to show how unique and special everyone is and how we are all best friends in 3rd Class! Here is a photograph of our class jigsaw art!
Finally, as it is the season of autumn, the boys and girls got their paintbrushes out and painted super “Autumn Woodland” paintings showing all the different colours the leaves on trees become. We are very happy with how they all turned out!
